Leading article: a new age of uncertainty in the North

Some events are potentially as destabilising for the undemocratic regime as the Supreme Leader’s death. As a totalitarian State of the world’s number-Fortunately-decreases, so too have this understanding. But the return was featured yesterday with a vengeance, after Pyongyang’s announcement of the Dear Leader, Kim Jong-il, had died suddenly during a trip outside the capital of North Korea on a special train.

There is no little irony here. One of the few facts are known about these individuals is closed is that it avoids flying. In August, he made a second trip to Moscow by train. This reluctance is limited contact with the outside world, though-that there is no little evidence he has an interest in foreign relations. There are also two States that can reduce the direct impact of Kim’s death, at least in the country.

The first is the relative speed of the announcement. Kim’s death has been reported previously, with foreign observers generally accept that his death will not need to be made public until it becomes his absence too embarrassing. In the event, the authorities appear to have calculated that even North Korea’s isolation, it’s not they can be at risk of a protracted circulation – this time-good rumors. The second is that Kim appeared to be making preparations to start in a row, as he promoted his son, Kim Jong-un, the rank of General of the star four years ago and given him a more prominent role in the Affairs of State.

The assumption is that Kim Jong-un will succeed his father, because Kim Jong-il succeeded him-North Korea makes one of the world non-hereditary monarchic rule that is more long lasting dictatorship. Kim’s latest, though, is still in his 20s and has not been tested in power, which hardly bodes well to survive the storm and that there may be competition ahead.

However, it should be required, at least in the sense of stability is more common, whether what North Korea needs or what people-for all the shows were surprised yesterday’s sorrows-really want to. Isolated, poor and at times near starvation, they have been kept in slavery, as their leaders have directed resources thin across the country to the military. The contrast between Northern and Southern barren prosper itself is an indictment of the regime in Pyongyang.
